FAQ

Q) Is it true that true bypass pedals make a popping noise when switched on and off?
A) No matter how well built a true bypass pedal is, there is the potential for popping. Simply put, your pedal pops because when you hit the switch, you’re introducing a sudden change in voltage into your signal. These “pops” can originate from a few different places, but I’ve found that the main source is the footswitch itself. Because of this, I use the best and quietest switch available today…the Electro Harmonix 3PDT. Even though true bypass has its minor drawbacks, the trade off in better tone is more than worth it. And perhaps best of all, in the middle of a song, you don’t hear it anyway! Note: after powering up your pedalboard (and while your amp is on standby), switch each of your true bypass pedals on and off a couple of times each. This will clear the static from your signal and minimize any subsequent switch noise.

Q) Do you offer a warranty with your products?
A) Yes. Each OceanEFX pedal comes with a limited 2 year warranty. It is guaranteed (for the original owner) to be free of any mechanical defects for two years from the date of purchase. Within 14 days of the date you take possession, you may return your pedal, in mint condition and with a copy of your original sales receipt, if you are unsatisfied for any reason. For two years thereafter should anything go wrong with the switch, jacks, knobs, or LED operation, I’ll repair or replace it at no charge. All repairs must again be accompanied by a copy of the original sales receipt. Normal wear and tear including paint chips and jacks that become dirty are not covered. Just take care of your gear and you should be fine! After the warranty period, any required repairs can be negotiated via email inquiry.

Q) Where does the name OceanEFX come from?
A) I live in a little town called Midlothian, Texas. A friend of mine always jokes about it being out in the middle of nowhere, calling it “middle of the ocean”. It’s a bit of a stretch but I thought it sounded cool.

Q) Is true bypass really that important?
A) That depends on how critical you are of your tone. Truth is, some pedals have it and most don’t. The more well known mass producers of guitar effects tend not to wire their pedals for true bypass, in my opinion, for two main reasons. First off, the cost of production is much higher. Secondly, I think they’re banking on the average player either not being aware of or not knowing the benefits of true bypass. They use similar terms like hard wired bypass, but the proof is there when the pedal is switched off. To varying degrees, a non-true bypass pedal will color your tone when its not in use since your signal is still being routed through its circuitry. With OceanEFX pedals and other true bypass units, when you switch the effect off, your signal gets re-routed directly from the input to the output, thus preserving your tone. Sometimes what you don’t hear is the most important part of your sound!

Q) Do you modify effects such as the TS-9 and wah pedals?
A) At this point, no. I may get into that in the future but for now, I’m concentrating on building and selling new pedals. However, I would strongly suggest at least getting your wah modded for true bypass. Of all the known tone-suckers, wah pedals are the most notorious. When they’re off, they KILL your tone!

Q) Where can I buy OceanEFX products?
A)

You can order any pedal from that pedal's page, just look near the bottom. Or, you can check the LINKS/DEALERS page for a list of places currently carrying OceanEFX products.

Q) Do you charge shipping and handling?
A) For domestic orders shipped to the lower 48, there is no shipping charge. However, I am required to charge an 8.25% sales tax on all orders placed from within the state of Texas. For orders going to Alaska, Hawaii, or overseas, shipping is charged depending on the size of the order. Shipping options and pricing are unique to that order and are determined at the time the order is placed.

Q) How long will it take to receive my order?
A) Build time depends on inventory at the time of purchase and current workload. While build time is usually about 3 weeks, that can vary. I'll let you know an accurate wait time when the order is placed. This obviously only applies to orders placed directly from OceanEFX.com. Contact my dealers for their available stock and turnaround times...and remember - I build each pedal one at a time, by hand. Thanks for your patience!
